Royal Enfied has come with an all New Engine for its Himalayan the engine is 410 cc called the LS 410 (Long Stroke). The Engine is specially designed to do duty on the Himalayan and is not a generalized use  as the 350 UCE does on the Bullet and Thunderbird .

Hence the Sync between the chassis and the Engine is beautiful and there is a sort of oneness  in the bike like both are  made for each other . The Engine Feels lighter in weight and you don't feel the mass engine while turning or cornering like we felt on the bullet.Engine even seems to be well made the Casting seems to have a good finish and gives a sense  of robustness .

Performance: The Engine develops power of  24.5 BHP @ 6500 rpm & Torque of 32 NM @ 4000-4500 rpm . 
The Numbers dont really impress but the performance does . The Engine develops lot of torque at the bottom end , just leave the clutch and bike rushes forward with nice pull as all the Enfields Do... Engine seems calm relaxed and vibrates a lot less than the Bullets it seems smooth and easy going and you wont mind opening the throttle really wide . The response to the throttle is nice and predictable there is not much of ON OFF sort of feeling from throttle . 

The easily pulls in low gears thanks to the torques from you can go 40 in top gear  and open the throttle the bike pull nicely without getting strained . Engine feels relaxed upto 110 Km/hr after that there is harshness and vibration in the Engine . Overtaking takes some effort as power depletes post 5000 rpm  .

The Himalayan is for cruising, climbing, mountains off roading it does it very well, the power and torque are very adequate for the Indian roads it is only when you try to drag race a KTM Duke you feel the Himalayan is running out of breath .Set the Speed at 90 - 100 and just let it go the bike feels relaxed and you can go hundreds of kilometers on this easily and thats what it does the best it doesnt want to overtake accelerate just relax and be itself the true its nature comes to life. 

Technical details : The Engine comes with bore of  78 mm and stroke 86 mm the long  stroke turns  that crank with huge torque .which is situated right at the bottom and mid range the climbs hills like a sheep with ease  .

Engine has given up its tappets and comes with timing chain , this is huge thing for royal enfield , the timing chains are much better than tappets it reduces maintenance , increases relay ability , reduces noise and vibration.

Engine comes with better lubrication system and improved rotary oil pump over . The oil cooling system is a boon will help engine maintain its temp and prevent overheating . in traffic at low speeds you wont feel the heat in your legs.

Engine all also reduces transmission loses thanks to its new primary drive . So good fuel Economy and better power delivery is the result of it
